Paraguayan methodology shines in prestigious international social innovation awards

The innovative Paraguayan methodology known as the “Poverty Stoplight,” promoted by Fundación Paraguaya in over 60 countries, has earned significant international recognition by being named one of the 40 winners of the 2024 World Summit Awards (WSA) in the “Inclusion and Empowerment” category. It was also the only representative from Latin America. This award highlights its positive impact in the fight against poverty and its contribution to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The announcement was made following the WSA Grand Jury meeting in Vienna, where over 100 shortlisted projects from UN member states were evaluated. The criteria included the ability of solutions to address social challenges through the use of innovative technologies. The Poverty Stoplight stood out for its comprehensive and personalized approach to measuring and eradicating poverty in communities worldwide.

“It is an immense honor to receive this recognition from the WSA, especially as we approach our 40th anniversary as an institution. This award validates the hard work of our team and reinforces our commitment to inclusion and empowering the most vulnerable communities,” emphasized Luis Fernando Sanabria, General Manager of Fundación Paraguaya.

The Poverty Stoplight is a digital tool that allows families to assess their socioeconomic status through visual indicators and develop personalized plans to improve their quality of life. This approach has proven effective in empowering people to sustainably and replicably overcome poverty.

With over 20 years of history, the World Summit Awards serve as an international platform recognizing digital initiatives with social impact across 182 countries. This year, the 40 winning projects from 29 countries were selected for their ability to transform communities through technology.

The award will be presented at the WSA Global Congress, to be held from April 6 to 9, 2025, in Hyderabad, India, under the theme “Digital, Democracy, and Us: Impact Solutions for Global Challenges.” During this event, Fundación Paraguaya will have the opportunity to showcase its methodology to an international audience, receive mentorship, and connect with global leaders from various sectors.

With this achievement, Fundación Paraguaya reaffirms its leadership in the fight against poverty and its ability to inspire innovative solutions that change lives worldwide.
