On Paraguayan Women’s Day, Fundación Paraguaya pays tribute to the women who, with courage and dedication, have been the driving force behind the country’s development. From the heroic women who rebuilt the nation after the War of the Triple Alliance to today’s entrepreneurs who lead 66% of microbusinesses, their impact is undeniable. On its 40th anniversary, the foundation reaffirms its commitment to providing tools for the advancement and empowerment of Paraguayan women.
In Paraguay, one-third of households are led by women who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of their families and the progress of their communities. Their role has been historically essential. In the 19th century, following the devastating War of the Triple Alliance, it was women who, through their strength and sacrifice, sustained the economy, preserved the culture, and rebuilt society. Today, that same spirit lives on in every entrepreneur, artisan, professional, and mother striving for a better future.

A clear example of this resilience is Vicenta, a ceramic artist from Itá and a client of Fundación Paraguaya, who has been transforming black clay, known as ñai’ũ, into works of art for 38 years. Her workshop is not only her livelihood but also a school of tradition, where she passes down her knowledge to new generations, ensuring the continuation of an ancestral craft. Her story embodies the unbreakable spirit of Paraguayan women who, with creativity and perseverance, uplift the country every day.
Over the past 40 years, Fundación Paraguaya has witnessed the transformative power of women. That is why all its programs are designed to support their growth by providing training, access to credit, and tools to help them achieve economic independence. Today, on this special day, we celebrate their dedication and hard work, recognizing that their strength is the foundation upon which a more prosperous and equitable Paraguay is built.
