In Paraguay, thousands of mothers support their households with love, dedication, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. In the month of May, specifically on May 15th, Paraguay celebrates Mother’s Day, and Fundación Paraguaya pays tribute to the women who make up the Committees of Entrepreneurial Women, protagonists of the country’s economic and social development.
Currently, more than 76,400 women participate in Fundación Paraguaya’s microfinance program, organized into 3,550 Committees of Entrepreneurial Women across the national territory. Many of them are mothers who, in addition to raising their children, lead small businesses, generate income, and build a more dignified future for their families.
The impact of these women is also reflected in their use of the Poverty Stoplight, an innovative tool that allows each family to identify their main needs and design their own path to overcome them.
In Paraguay, 66% of the Stoplight surveys are answered by households led by mothers. Through this methodology, women identify and prioritize the areas they consider most important for the well-being of their children and the development of their homes.
The three indicators most prioritized by Paraguayan mothers are:
- Savings, as a foundation to face emergencies and plan for the future.
- Income, to strengthen the family economy.
- Separate bedrooms, to provide greater comfort, privacy, and better living conditions for their children.
The results from the past year reflect concrete progress driven by the leadership and perseverance of these women:
- 2,886 mothers improved their level of savings.
- 1,554 mothers increased their income.
- 1,498 mothers achieved better conditions in their bedrooms.
These achievements prove that when mothers have the right tools, financial education, and access to opportunities, they can transform their homes and open up new possibilities for their families.
Paraguayan women represent one of the main economic forces in the country. From their homes, farms, grocery stores, workshops, and small businesses, they generate income, revitalize communities, and contribute to local development.
Fundación Paraguaya celebrates these brave women who, through love, hard work, and entrepreneurship, build a more dignified present and a more promising future for their children and for all of Paraguay.
